I have not forgotten that I promised to answer some common questions about art. So, why is art so expensive anyway? Click here to read my answer!
Another thing I commonly hear from people is something along the lines of: “Isn’t art supposed to be deep and meaningful?” “I don’t get it.” “I don’t understand art, but I know what I like.” These statements really apply to abstract art, but they apply to my work as well. So next time I will attempt to answer another doozy: “What is the meaning of art?” (And more specifically, my art, because that I can talk about.)

My question is why is one supposed to understand it or get it? Maybe the point is just to enjoy it for what it is :) I liked your breakdown on why art is expensive.
I voted, YEA! I voted!
I tend to agree with you--but you are an artist yourself, so you may have a deeper understanding of how to enjoy it for what it is.
Sometimes the artist has an intended meaning in mind, sometimes not--I think some non-artist viewers are content to know what appeals to them and leave it at that, but many people I've talked to are concerned with a need to understand the "meaning" of the art they are looking at. Which is obviously quite subjective and depends a lot on the art in question--but still, I'll take a crack at talking about it. :-)
