Here is “Yosemite Sky (Orange and Blue).”
In this painting, the clouds are filled with sunlight. They float against a deep blue sky, which is streaked with orange in the lower half.
This painting is based on photos I took during a recent visit to Yosemite National Park.
Because of the dramatic vertical land formations in Yosemite National Park, the sky there looks unbelievably enormous and open.
You can see the light shine across the entire dome of the sky. It’s a place that I urge you to go see in person if you ever get the chance.
With this painting, I purposely experimented with the complementary colors of orange and blue, the result of which is a vibrant, dramatic, energizing image.
This painting full of movement, the wispy clouds blowing across the sky.
The angles of the trees against the sky give the perspective of them being impossibly tall from our vantage point down on the ground.
The blue-green trees are almost silhouettes, but when you look closer, you can see details in their branches, and unexpected hints of magenta, violet and lime green.
The painting continues around the deep edges of the gallery-wrapped canvas.
