Under Giants. 48" x 48", Acrylic on Canvas, © 2022 Cedar Lee
Here is “Under Giants.”
This is a 4’ x 4’ painting of the California redwood forest.
The thick trunks of the giant sequoias on the left vanish into the sky as they reach 100-300 feet upwards!
Sun lights up the details of the rough bark in the foreground.
On the right side of the canvas are the curving branches of smaller deciduous trees, sunlight glinting off of thousands of green leaves, creating masses of color glowing with sunlight.
The sun shines warmly through the faraway tree branches.
In contrast to the bright light emanating from up above, we can feel the shade of being down here on the floor of the forest, under the cover of the giant trees.
This painting is one of many I have painted in awe of the life-changing experience of seeing California’s old growth redwood forests in person.
This imagery is universally appealing, calming and healing.
This painting can liven up a neutral room with its vibrant tones of green, yellow and blue, grounded by the earth tones in the tree trunks.
Much like seeing the scale of the redwood trees in person, seeing the scale of this artwork in person is so much better than can be conveyed with photos!
