I was commissioned to create this house portrait, which is being gifted from a daughter to her parents.
They recently sold their family home. This painting is to commemorate all the years of happy memories spent in this home, and give them something special to hang on the wall of their new home.
One detail I took care to capture was the sun-dappled lighting falling across the face of the garage and the driveway.
Some of the details are so tiny in the painting that they are hinted at with just a few tiny brushstrokes: the panes of the windows, the siding on the house, bricks on the chimney, the picket fence, shrubs and hedges.
Tall trees surround and tower over the house up into the sky. I painted the trees in a looser, more abstract style.
This painting involved a lot of very detailed work, and it’s fun to watch it come together in this time lapse video:
