Here is “Beaverton Sunlight.”
Thank you to my friend Wesley for taking the photo that inspired me to paint this.
Beaverton, on the west side of Portland, OR, has a great farmers market in the summer. I remember being there one year on a hot day with my small kids in tow, buying them fresh-picked strawberries and watching them race around and dance in the mist of a public fountain. There was a live band playing steel drums, people walking by with canvas bags overflowing with fresh produce, dogs on leashes and babies in strollers.
This sky framed by different kinds of trees, even though it’s an unrelated image, reminds me of that day. It is a moment of peace and joy, colorful and alive.
This painting is both high-contrast and in highly-saturated color. The sky is such a deep blue.
Where the light of the setting sun shines through the trees, you can see all the colors of the rainbow.
The trees are painted in unnatural shades of orange, blue and purple.
Some of the foliage is painted in fine, wispy brush strokes.
In other parts, the brush strokes are rough and bold.
Up close, you can see the multiple layers of texture in the paint.
And from across the room, this painting draws you in for a closer look because it is so bright, joyful and glowing with color.
Feel free to contact me with any questions about purchasing the original, or if you’d like to order a print of this painting.
