Forest Light

I am using the small color studies I’ve been doing as references for larger paintings now. I am planning several 48″ x 36″ paintings–here is the first. Forest Light.

The scale doesn’t translate in photos, unfortunately, but in person, this painting makes you feel like you are really there, a small person standing in the middle of these giant woods.

And I couldn’t resist taking this photo of a corner of the painting on the drying rack in the studio. It was very late afternoon, almost sunset, and the sun cast these beautiful slanting shadows and beams of light across the painting in the fading light of dusk.
