Garden, May 2008

Cedar May 19th, 2008

A sneak peek at a few of the wonderful things I am growing this year:

Strawberries.

Strawberries

Sunflowers. The smaller plants you see at this sunflower’s base are assorted wildflowers.

Lettuce. You can see green leaf lettuce and two kinds of romaine here.

Herbs. Shown here: St. John’s wort, lemon balm, spicy oregano, rosemary, lavender, and purple coneflower. In other parts of the garden I also have mint, parsley, dill, garlic chives, and lots of basil.

Herbs

Jalapeño. Each white flower is the beginning of a pepper.

Mesclun. In the right corner of this photo you can see a small 3-leafed plant–this is a squash volunteer from a seed that must have been in my compost. I’ll have to move it elsewhere before it gets big.

Green beans. I have two kinds. The tallest ones are about 2 feet right now. They are just starting to flower.

Beans

Potatoes. I have 4 different kinds: red potatoes, sweet potatoes, German butterballs, and Yukon golds. The tropical-looking leaves in the background here are my canna lilies, which will have big red flowers come summer. Also in this picture, very small, are a few baby artichokes.

Potatoes

Irises.

Love your garden I wish I could have on. Love the cat on your banner. Reminds me of an old friend - Shadow.
