This video was supposed to be released sometime around Mothers’ Day, but the video editing got put on the back burner and didn’t end up happening until just now. I hope you enjoy it, all the same!

After more than a week of stifling heat with not a drop of rain, it is finally pouring here. My garden is very happy.
I’ve been baby-sitting a little girl named Remy, the two-year-old daughter of one of my former painting professors, while her mom is out of town on a business trip. Hanging out with a two-year-old has reminded me that certain little things are good for my health, and I should do them more often; for example, getting excited about what I’m going to have for lunch, spending time watching a squirrel run around, jumping in puddles, making up ridiculous songs, and drawing on the sidewalk with chalk. In the past few days I’ve gotten re-acquainted with Mary Poppins, Pinocchio, Mickey Mouse, Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street.
New artwork, as always, is a-brewing.

The awesome people at Picmees.com have created this wonderful video to help introduce me to the world.
Enjoy!
Also, because one of my previous blog entries was accidentally deleted (don’t ask) I’m re-posting my self-portrait video just so it will be up here for new people stumbling on my blog for the first time:
I am absolutely stunned by the shooting that happened on Monday at Virginia Tech. The families and friends of the people murdered have been on my mind constantly. I hope the wounded students recover fully and quickly. I can’t believe how horrible this world can be sometimes.
It’s been cold and rainy all week…ugh. My lawn is ultra green though, from being watered so much. It’s supposed to go above 70 by next Tuesday…I can’t wait to get my hands dirty in the garden. I’ve already planted a baby Cleveland pear tree in the front yard–it’s maybe 7 feet tall and has only a few little white blossoms and delicate leaves, but when it grows up to be 30 feet tall, it’s going to be breathtaking in the springtime. Makes me wish I had planted one 5 years ago when I first moved to this house, so I could’ve been watching it grow each year.
I’ve got a few new paintings in the works…You’ll see them soon. I am trying to balance my time between doing commissions and doing other paintings. My body of work is slowly but surely expanding.

For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, I have a new video up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KWGR2rH8UA
Several people have told me this painting makes them miss Asheville. In all honesty, I actually painted it in a fit of nostalgia for Asheville. (It’s based on a photo I took while hiking in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, so it’s not Asheville, but technically, it is the same mountain range.) I want to do more paintings like this, but first I have to wait till more leaves grow on the trees and it warms up, so I can go hiking in the mountains again to collect lots of photos and sketches.
On Saturday I attended my father-in-law’s wedding to my new stepmom-in-law. It was a quite lovely and happy day.
The kitchen renovation is still going–more slowly than we expected, but going nonetheless. We have a bit of patching, re-wiring, rebuilding and painting to do before we can put the new floor in…but once that’s done, we only have to deal with the installation of cabinets and countertops, and a little bit of plumbing. And then a little bit of tile-work. No sweat. =)
I’m working as hard as ever on my art lately, so right now I am happy to be making any progress on our kitchen that we do.

I’d like to share my first video demonstration of a painting in progress from start to finish. This video was recorded over the course of an entire work day and then condensed into 4 minutes!
