Dog portrait: Boomer

Cedar October 31st, 2007

Here’s another pet portrait I just finished–a sweet cocker spaniel who was a loyal friend for 16 years. He passed away this year and is dearly missed by his people.

I think in this painting he looks like he is in “dog heaven,” complete with sunshine, grass, dandelion fluff, butterflies and ladybugs.

This week I got my copies in the mail of Zahir, the literary arts journal that features one of my paintings, Mountain Storm, on the cover of its Winter 2007 issue. It looks great! It makes me want to look into doing book cover illustrations.

I’m working on some more fall-themed paintings. My “Autumn Palette” is really growing on me–orange, red, yellow, brown….rust, pewter, olive green. I’m using a lot of earth tones straight out of their tubes…raw umber, burnt umber, raw sienna, burnt sienna…you name it.
:)

I hope you all had a lovely Halloween. This is the first year in a long time I didn’t bother to dress up or go anywhere…probably because it fell on a Wednesday this year. Instead, I lit candles and hunkered down in my house and ate pizza and watched TV with my husband.

I got all the partying out of my system this past weekend, when I went to New York City to visit my brother. He took me out with ten of his friends to sing karaoke, and we didn’t get back to his apartment till after 5 am. I never considered myself a karaoke fan, but it was so much fun!

Small Framed Prints

Cedar October 18th, 2007

Between now and December 17th, I will be taking orders for small framed prints at these special low prices, just for the holidays:

$19 for 5 x 7”
$29 for 8 x 10”

I can print-to-order pretty much any of the paintings in the gallery on my website.

Free shipping to anywhere in the continental U.S. for orders of $100 or more. Standard shipping fees will apply for orders less than $100.

These are perfect as small gifts for family and friends. They will be printed on glossy 100 lb. photo paper and framed. These are not the exact frames I will be using, but they will be similar to this—simple wooden frames:

winter foretold framed

autumnal giants framed

moonrise framed

cocoon framed

Again, I can print-to-order almost any painting for you–just ask!

Email me with your orders, and be sure to give me

1) the titles of paintings you’d like prints of
2) how many of each, in what sizes (either 5×7″ or 8×10″)
3) and your mailing address.

You can pay by Paypal or by check.

I’m working on some new stuff—will show you soon!

Health Freedom

Cedar October 9th, 2007

This post isn’t art-related, so please disregard this entry if this doesn’t interest you.

This issue is just so important to me that I want to spread the word as much as possible and I encourage you to do the same.

This video is 40 minutes long, but worth watching if you can. If you don’t have time now, you can come back to it later.

I got the video off of this website: HealthFreedomUSA.org

Please, sign the petitions there, call your representatives, and tell everyone you know to do the same.

Here’s why you should:

An entity called Codex Alimentarius wants to control the world’s food and is well on its way to doing so. Codex was started in 1962 by the UN and is imposed by WTO sanctions. Codex wants all nutrients–basically everything found in food–to be officially classified as “toxins” so that they can be treated as controlled substances…everything, that is, except pharmaceuticals.

Codex is based in the Napoleonic Code, not Common Law. That means that under Codex Alimentarius, anything not explicitly permitted is forbidden. Under Common Law, we hold that anything not explicitly forbidden is permitted. The difference is the difference between health freedom and health tyranny. Codex Alimentarius would be able to ban supplements by default.

If the world becomes “Codex-compliant” (Codex’s goal is total compliance in 2009) we will no longer have any choices about what we eat and drink. Furthermore, it will be mandatory by law to include certain toxins, like Recombinant growth hormone, in our food. Pesticides will be less regulated than ever. Drugs will be pushed as the only option for health care. I am talking about enforced sickness: the world’s people get poisoned and malnourished while the corporations make money off of it. We can’t let this happen. We need to protect our freedom and our health.

I realize that I am an official “health nut” with “activist” tendencies…and maybe you’re not either of those things. But even if you’re not inclined to get involved in this issue, you can still go to HealthFreedomUSA.org and sign the Citizens’ Petition there. It only takes a moment.

Thank you!

Next week I’ll be a guest speaker for a painting class at Goucher College–the same painting class I took 3 years ago with the same professor! I’m to tell the students what I’ve learned in the past 3 years…so I’ve got some thinking to do.

Hypothetical Settings

Cedar October 1st, 2007

When you carefully select a work of art that you love and then carefully display it, it adds an amazing kind of energy to your home. When you make the choice to live with art around you, you draw beauty from your surroundings every day. Your home is a true sanctuary and a true reflection of yourself. Artwork transforms a room into a space that is playful, stimulating, serene, elegant, cozy–or anything you want it to be!

You’re used to seeing pictures of my artwork by themselves, rather than hanging on a wall in a room. But what would some of my paintings look like as part of an overall interior design plan–as part of a larger work of art?

I know most people’s homes are not this minimalist, so maybe these images are not quite like real life–but I think they are inspiring nonetheless. There are so many possibilities!

I spent this past weekend hiking and camping, breathing fresh air, admiring incredible wilderness scenery, and laughing. This has been one of the best weekends for me in recent history. I have the greatest friends!
